Hi, I’m Amy. I’m an avid traveler who was drawn to San Miguel de Allende while touring Mexico several years ago, inspired by glowing recommendations from top travel magazines. Like many destinations, I expected to spend a fun week exploring, eating great food, snapping photos—and then move on to the next big adventure.

But San Miguel de Allende was different.

From my first visit, I felt an immediate and deep connection to this magical town. I returned several times in the months that followed, each time falling more in love with its beauty and spirit. Eventually, I followed my heart and made San Miguel de Allende my home.

Although I’m now a full-time resident, I continue to experience the city like a curious first-time traveler. Its rich layers of history, culture, art, architecture, nature, and cuisine ensure there’s always something new to discover.

I created Destination San Miguel de Allende as a way to share everything I’ve come to love about this town—from the best bites and boutique hotels to unforgettable local experiences.

I’m right outside San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, at a lovely home in the hills, savoring a beautiful afternoon in the countryside, hosted by friend Tonya Harmon, a.k.a. Empress of Cheese.

A wonderful lunch prepared by Italian chef, Laura Buccheri of Sikelia, in the company of old and new friends, and I realized “Who needs Italy?”

Life is just as good under the Mexican sun.

So many things come to mind—the people, the weather, the food. But after living here for a while, I’ve realized what I love most are the surprises.

Every time I step out my front door, there’s something unexpected waiting to be experienced.

This past weekend, as Gary and I strolled home from brunch, we heard the steady rhythm of drums. We turned the corner and were greeted by this vibrant scene.

The people of Mexico often honor their indigenous traditions, and celebrations like this are not uncommon. Yet no matter how often I see them, they always stop me in my tracks—mesmerized by the colors, the movement, and the energy.
